Windows Server 2008 For Businesses

Posted by Bryan Karl | Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Business that run many processes a day through networks and the Internet must have a very good server to start with. Windows Server 2008 is the most advanced Windows Server OS yet. This is designed to support a larger network, richer applications and Web services. So why choose Windows Server 2008?

Windows Server 2008 can help a business or a company bring in rich customer experiences and applications, provide a highly secure network infrastructure, and increase technological efficiency and value within the business. With Windows Server 2008, you get:

  • a solid foundation for all of your server workload and application requirements while also being easy to deploy and manage
  • the next-generation hypervisor-based server virtualization technology, allows you to make the best use of your server hardware investments by consolidating multiple server roles as separate virtual machines running on a single physical machine
  • major enhancement to the Windows Web platform
  • protection against failure and several new technologies help prevent unauthorized connections to your networks, servers, data, and user accounts
  • the benefits and cost savings

So what if you are a small business but would want to try out on Windows Server 2008 but has no idea whatsoever in using it? A newbie may not be able to do on his own when dealing for the first time with the server without direct guides. It would be costly for a small business to hire someone to do the set-up, installation, etcetera for the server. It would be better from someone internal in the business (owner or trusted employee) to learn the server processes. Windows Server 2008 CBT (computer-based training) videos are widespread over the internet. Videos are more instructional than text, so they say. If you plan to move to Windows Server 2008, it would be best to study on it first to have an excellent first time use.

One Can Go Poor Forever

Posted by Bryan Karl | Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Poverty is really an evil thing after all. Some of those who may have been stricken with extreme poverty may live with it after all. Here in the Philippines, there are a lot of the extremely poor people. If poverty would be rid from the face of the planet, we would probably live a better life.

According to studies, poverty has a direct connection to brain damage. A long-term study of cognitive development in lower- and middle-class students found strong links between childhood poverty, physiological stress and adult memory. This means that by living a childhood life of poverty, effects may go on until adulthood because of the damage it has done in the brain.

The findings support a neurobiological hypothesis for why impoverished children consistently fare worse than their middle-class counterparts in school, and eventually in life. Middle- to high-class kids always get the best in nurture, nutrition and resources while those in the lower-class get a bad diet and no access to resources. Due to their poverty too, key mental abilities won't go out starting from kindergarten up to adulthood.

Called the achievement gap, this is the phenomenon of the disproportionately low academic performance of poor children and teenagers living in poverty.

Poor kids are stressed even at their youngness. Scientists also found that hormones produced in response to stress literally wear down the brains (of animals).

So how do we deal with this one?

"Policy changes that affect environments that might affect cognitive development and brain change — that's the ultimate future of the field," Kim Noble, a University of Pennsylvania psychobiologist said.

Get Yourself An IT Career

Posted by Bryan Karl | Friday, March 27, 2009

Because we are living in a continuously growing world of technology, IT careers are in demand and are much needed. There are so many people out there who have an IT career. Therefore one should be extraordinary enough to make it higher.

Getting yourself indulged in the IT field is not an overnight task. True, that learning how to use a computer takes a short time but there's more to that in the IT world. IT people create, discover and innovate. If you want to get a position in the IT world, you must have those three in mind. I must have those three in mind because I will be entering this field as soon as I graduate.

With the advent of ELearning or electronic learning, getting yourself taught with information technology modules and information has become easier. Schooling at home and online, sounds good for those who would really want to get it far in the IT world but can't make it to ordinary school because of other priorities. E-Learning is very useful for those who already have work or those who are stay-at-home.

So what can e-learning centers teach you? Usually, the topics handled would be the basics, then Microsoft products and languages, open-source programming, networking, servers, database, security (an in-demand field) and virtualization. All of those can be learned at any prestigious university but it can also be learned online. The only difference is that the e-learning student would give more effort in learning the subjects.

In the IT field, tomorrow is an open field. There are so many possibilities. A lot change everyday. If you want to go with the ride, be prepared.

Need Cash? Save For It

Posted by Bryan Karl | Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Can you still feel the recession? Maybe in the USA, but here in the Philippines, recession may not be a new phenomenon. But nevertheless, recession still exists and is ought to continue until probably 2010 (and decline at that time) according to some experts.

So are you short of cash? A lot of familied people get to face the problem of cash shortage. Cash has become an object of survival in the world of ours today; unless you adore the ethnic tribes of the highlands. But living in this modern world, we need to catch up with all our might just to have something to spend for necessities and for certain happiness. People with jobs usually experience this kind of situation: needed money before payday comes. Those that are not self-employed usually depend on the company's or boss' policies when to get their salaries. Usually, the employees would be caught in between. If they can't acquire some payday loans online or offline, they would have to borrow from someone else. So what's the lesson? Save your money. We have to learn from how the ants save their food during rainy season. And maybe, just maybe, we would have better financial lives ahead of us.

OJT Hunting, Not Easy

Posted by Bryan Karl | Tuesday, March 24, 2009

I thought at first that finding somewhere to have my on-the-job training would be an easy thing. I assumed the many IT companies in our place would be ready to welcome interested interns. But I guess not. Many companies don't even give a venue for OJT. Some have minimal training while others have not-so-related-to-your-field ones.

I started looking for companies mid-February. Now, it is almost April and I have no company to have my OJT yet. It is hard. By April, more students would be grabbing OJT positions on selected companies. The hype. I am not used to company hunting. I've been to the IT center in our place and with a bit of luck, I've been only interviewed once. I'm waiting for the callback. Tomorrow's another day for an exam and interview. I wish I would hit it this time. I'm tired of searching given the many schoolstuffs that eat 99% of my time. Wish me luck. Let me catch it.

We are evolving. From paper to digital technology, we have greatly improved on how we present and relay ideas and things.

AV presentations are now widely used both in the corporate and in the institutional levels. Did you know that videos have a higher probability of catching a bored person's attention than ordinary paper or board presentations? Well that is very trivial, I suppose. Studies have also shown that we are likely to choose video, audio and graphics over plain text.

Large and multinational business have been now adopting the promotional video scheme in commercials. With personal experience, I'd say some companies have already reached the point of making themselves popular through their cool and hip video commercials. Take McDonald's. McDonald's "First Love" commercial in the Philippines has been a hit. They made use of very good strategies like in the storyline, music and the whole video presentation itself. Such strategies of using high-end infomercials and advertisements are very ideal for today with the coming out of TV technologies that could support numerous other graphics related innovations. Some big companies make use of Video Production Services to drive their companies to popularity and financial growth. As Samsung says, "It's not that hard to imagine".

Websites (of businesses or companies) on the other hand make good use of animations and scripts to drive their clients in fast. With the advent of the super cool Flash, animations get world-class. But not all could create extremely amazing animations with Flash. Those who can are considered amazing people. Animations may slow down a web page's loading, true. But it can entice viewers to explore more and to interact with it. Again, some people just want to explore an animated site rather than a pure text-based one. For now, there's no greater one than the two since some people also enjoy a simple site rather than a lively one. But animations in websites is a good promotional tool too. It will make a site more interesting, lively and fun.

Using technologies to drive your businesses and projects to success is a very good strategy. People love new things, ideas and innovations. It wouldn't hurt to try on the newest stuff available. You might now know, it would already be your cue to ultimate success.

Is Face-Value A Real Worth?

Posted by Bryan Karl | Saturday, March 21, 2009

The answer is no. I have learned in Philosophy 1 that existence precedes essence. That is, our very own existence has more weight compared to what we are and what we made ourselves into. This very small phrase "Existence precedes essence" must be able to drive people to respect others because they are they and not because of their accomplishments. The same goes to people who discriminate those whom they think have lowly lives. Societal issues arise from these kinds of situations. Some people treat the poor as equals to animals. Some blessed people treat not-so-good-looking people as dirt. No wonder some people have to clamor to stealing to become rich, or to end up in a very expensive cosmetic surgery to be beautiful and be praised. We brood our own problems and sometimes it starts from individuals and then look as if society did it.

One way to keep peace among everyone is to treat everyone with no exceptions the kind of respect that they deserve. And we all deserve the same kind of respect because we are all equal when we talk of our own existence. Respect a person because of his/her Personhood and you will have a clearer life.

Aloe Vera And You

Posted by Bryan Karl | Friday, March 20, 2009

Did you know that Cleopatra was documented to have used aloe vera in her life? Researches said that Cleopatra used the aloe gel on her skin to protect it from the sun and to keep it fresh. Aloe veras have been used for a thousand of years already. These desert lilies can be easily grown even in pots. The first thing I knew about aloe vera is that it is good for the scalp and those with balding hair. Not all knew that aloe vera also does wonders on the skin.

Studies have shown that aloe vera speeds the healing process, particularly in burns, including those from radiation. It is also used by dermatologists to speed healing after facial dermabrasion, which removes scars from the skins top layers. Basically, what it does is to moisturize and soften skin, heal bites and burns, kill fungus and bacteria and improve modern sunscreen products' effectiveness.

Let Your Furnitures Live Long

Posted by Bryan Karl | Sunday, March 15, 2009

Some families spend so much in changing furniture sets every year. That is because some members are not being careful in their handling of their furniture. Increasing your furniture's lifespan through proper care is needed regardless of what type of furniture you own.

The first key is prevention of unwanted damage. Do you want to live in a house with torn furniture all around? Or those with mildews or molds clinging on its sides? Of course not. One thing to do is follow some damage prevention tips because some causes of furniture damage is not human-induced but are caused by sudden changes in the environment. There is a wide variety of furniture material. It is up to the owner to know how to prevent damage on a specific furniture type.

The next key is cleaning. Cleaning a furniture depends on the material. There are several dos and don'ts when cleaning your furniture. Since there are a lot of material types for furniture, it is good to always know the right methods of cleaning. Otherwise, it would cause damage. For example, a home office furniture's cleaning methods would be different from that of the dining room furniture.

Constant furniture changing can be costly. It is always good to be practical even in this area of your life.

Saving Precious Lives With Technology

Posted by Bryan Karl | Friday, March 13, 2009

We all grow old. That is one of the facts that we all face in the late years of our lives. We all become senior citizens if we are given the chance to live that long. We all will get the chance to slow down, descend from the mountain of life, and reflect on what happened throughout our life. If lucky, we become happy grandparents.

Grandparents are sages trained by time. We all learn a lot from them. We all inherit the lessons from their past experiences. That is why our grandparents' lives are as precious as everybody else's. I don't like hearing that some societies just send their sane grandparents to homes for the aged. I am lucky my grandparents are very healthy. My grandparents at 70+ travel by themselves to and from Hong Kong. My grandpa drives a tricycle for a living. They are lucky they are still strong. But how about those other grandparents that can't help themselves. They need unrequited love from their children and relatives.

Recently, medical alert devices have been made through technology's wonders to aid and support the elderly. Some elderly people can't support themselves but their children can't also leave their work to watch them all day. Brickhouse Alert brings to families two great innovations that are called Tele-Assisst and Mobile GPS.

Tele-Assisst includes a Fall Alert, Inactivity Alert, Intruder Alarm, Live Personal, Reminders, Panic Button, 24/7 Live Monitoring and 4 Speed Dial Buttons. Mobile GPS on the other hand includes a Wander Alert, Built-In Cell Phone, GPS Location Aware, 24/7 Live Monitoring and Speed Dial. It requires no set-up and is for both indoors and outdoors.

Given those kinds of technologies (medical alert), we would be at peace knowing our elderly loved ones are protected from immediate harm. They may be ending their lives but they still have the utmost right to enjoy it in every way possible.

Innovations for a Better Driving Experience

Posted by Bryan Karl | Sunday, March 08, 2009

Ford has been, over the years, in line with other top vehicle brands worldwide. As time passes, so will the technology that gears up every bestselling vehicle available in the market. Like other world-class vehicle brands, Ford also is on the go when it comes to upgrading the technologies they use in their products.

When it comes to innovation, Ford divided the areas into four parts: Technology, Design, Safety and Greener Miles.

Technology

Ford includes the best technologies to improve quality, reduce injuries and to bring the products quickly to the market. Ford is using virtual ergonomics technology which improved the vehicle quality greatly and has reduced the burden of workers. Engineers use advanced motion-capture technology and human modeling software to make better the manufacturing process. With the University of Michigan on Ford’s side, ergonomics has been improved using virtual tools.

Design

Peter Horbury, Autocar's Designer of the Year in 1998, is the one who manages the design strategy and execution of Ford cars. Horbury was the executive director of design for the Premier Auto Group, leading future product design strategy and design processes for Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo. Peter Horbury’s objective is to transmit America's bold spirit to sheet metal.

Safety

Safety is top priority. In this field, Ford aims to improve on the passenger compartment’s design to keep passengers safe during an accident. An example is the second generation Volvo S80 whose front body structure has been divided into zones. In a collision case, the outer zones get the most damage while the inner zone gets only little damage. Alongside with that are the following: Improved Side Airbags, Pedestrian Protection and Personal Security.

Greener Miles

Ford tries to help Mother Earth while improving their products. They have a water saving program and acquired a tool named Water Estimation Tool (WET) to manage water usage.

With Ford's keen innovations, there is no question why it is one of top vehicle brands in the whole world. Ford's line of products include the Ford Ranger, Ford Transit and Ford Vans. Personally, the Ford Volvo S80 is my choice.

What's in San Francisco?

Posted by Bryan Karl | Sunday, March 08, 2009

I have always loved the Golden Gate Bridge. I have never been to San Francisco, nor in any part of the USA, though. I just wanted to go and see the Golden Gate Bridge because for me, it is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world.

What makes this bridge sort of "memorable" to me is that it has been always one of the scenes in the fantasy series Charmed. Anything related to magic, I would love. Fantasy! That is probably why I got stuck to Charmed, Kyle XY and Heroes. I don't know if that was meant of an escape mechanism for me but I do really dream of being able to do magic of any type.

The Charmed series, all of its 8 seasons, were shot (outside, non-studio scenes) in San Francisco. Since I have finished the 8 seasons, I probably have had enough view of San Francisco already, including close up views of the Golden Gate Bridge. X-Men also had scenes on this bridge. I clearly remembered Magneto hovering over the cars on the bridge. Cool.

And since I can't afford a trip to San Francisco yet, I'll just have to resort to seeing San Francisco pictures on the internet. I have found several good scenes and I even kept one wallpaper of a good aerial view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Someday, I'll have my feet on the metals of the Golden Gate Bridge. And then I orb out because I am a whitelighter.

That's right. I thought BlueHost is the best. But according to Web Hosting Choice's Best 10 Web Hosting Sites, BlueHost is just on the 5th slot. First is JustHost.com which apparently I haven't heard before today. The rankings are tallied based on Price, Score, Setup, Domain, Disk Space, Data Transfer and Money Back.

So why bother, you ask. Having not only your own domain but also your own paid host is actually an advantageous thing. Control and usability are one of the top benefits of purchasing a web hosting service. But there are a lot of web hosts out there. Which one to choose? BlueHost is very popular but is sort of expensive. But remember, you get what you pay for. Always make the best web hosting choice.

Get Cracked On Cracked.Com

Posted by Bryan Karl | Wednesday, March 04, 2009

One of my plurkmates shared a link on an article about 11 "Modern" Technologies That Are Way Older Than You Think. I visited the link and thought, hey what a cool site! That article came from a site named Cracked.Com. This site is America's (and the whole world now probably) only humor and video site since 1958. Cool huh? 1958. But I don't find the articles leaning on the funny side of the fence. I think the articles are very informative ranging from serious stuff, tech news, gossip to near nonsense.

Here are some of the most popular articles that are listed on their homepage:
That's it. I myself think those 5 are surely interesting. Or at least one of them.

I don't just normally endorse a site in my blogs. But those that I like get something like this. I have so many things to learn from Cracked.Com. I think you do too.

Pregnant Women: Beautiful Or Not?

Posted by Bryan Karl | Tuesday, March 03, 2009

I have always heard that females have so many worries when it comes to pregnancy. Aside from the adjustment to a new life inside, look-conscious women may get worried that the sudden hormonal changes may also cause some unwanted changes on how they look outside.

True, those soon-to-be mothers are beautiful inside because of the precious life they are carrying. But most of them are not outside. When you see the Filipino movie Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo, it was shown that when the wife was pregnant and she looked odd, the husband was tempted to take on other girls that are sexy. Nowadays, looking good outside is given importance and pregnant women would probably push that they too have the right to look great even when pregnant.

A one-of-a-kind line of products named Beaute de Maman has been specially developed to enhance a pregnant woman’s look as well as making sure that both the mother and the baby inside are safe from chemical harm. The products of Beaute de Maman include a stretch mark remover, nipple gel, face/body cream and a facial scrub. These products could make good gifts to a wife to a friend.

So who says pregnant women could not be beautiful? Our teacher in Humanities before still looks good even though she is pregnant right now. Take away the notion that pregnant women are ugly. Know somebody pregnant? You can order now the mentioned products.

Punk's Alive

Posted by Bryan Karl | Sunday, March 01, 2009

I am not a punk. I have seen a lot of punk wannabes though. Around the world, there are millions of punks. But how does the common eye see them? Usually it is the physical appearance description that we know. But they say there’s more to it.

A true punk is a fierce individualist who has a bone to pick with the rough economic world. The real punk, they say, is not fashion. It is mindset. Of course, fashion is part of it but it is not the only defining factor for a punk. Getting into the style field of being a punk, we get 10 pointers from WikiHow.
  1. It is the inside that counts. Show what you are through your style.
  2. Go leather, denim, leopard print, plaid, stripes, tartan and army/camouflage materials, as these are the staples of the punk wardrobe.
  3. Pants with zippers sewn up to back of the legs.
  4. Wear a plain band t-shirt if you like.
  5. Stay away from shoe brands.
  6. Get the hairstyle. Be creative!
  7. Try dyeing hair blond with black tips or adding other colors.
  8. Use bright colors for makeup.
  9. Get some piercings.
  10. Avoid going from preppy to punk in one step.
Getting those 10 pointers from WikiHow, are you ready for the punk change? Remember that it is good to mingle with persons who have the same style/belief as you are. Find some punks in your local neighborhood or go online and make friends in a punk chat room. Rock and roll!
